Trainings for Human Rights Defenders
Südwind and the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) provided a training on LGBT rights for Iranian HRDs with information on international human rights law and resolution on LGBT rights and on the situation and cases in Iran. It also offered tools to deepen their knowledge and to equip them to use the UN human rights mechanism to improve and promote LGBT rights or equality. The training was taught by Hossein Alizadeh and Nazli Kamvari from IGLHRC and the Iranian filmmaker and activist Farid Haerinejad.

26th HRC Session

Trainings for Human Rights Defenders
Südwind provided three trainings for Iranian human rights defenders during the 26th HRC session in Geneva. Südwind organized a workshop for Iranian HRDs with trainer’s Dr Hassan Nayeb Hashem (Südwind´s representative at the HCR) from June 7 to June 8. This training was focused on the Mechanism of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) and provided opportunities for Iran human rights defenders to strengthen their struggle for human rights and democracy.

The second training “Writing for the UN Human Rights Council” on 9 June 2014 with Sholeh Zamini (Südwind´s representative at the HCR) focused on giving useful tips on report writing for the HRC through group discussion, exercises and working on examples of reports written before.

The third workshop from 14 to 15 June 2014 with Dr. Hassan Makaremi (League for the Defence of the Human Rights for Iran) lectured on management principles for Iranian civil society activists and human rights activists to peacefully promote civic engagement; tolerance; respect for human rights.

25th session of the HRC

Trainings for Iranian Human Rights Defenders
Südwind organized a workshop for Iranian HRDs with trainer lawyer Leila Ali-Karami from March 1 to March 2. The event provided the opportunity for Iranian activists to meet and exchange their experiences in promoting gender equality and women’s rights. In particular, the workshop focused on institutional requirements related to monitoring, protecting, and promoting women’s rights and gender equality.

From March 8 and March 9 Dr. Hassan Makaremi (League for the Defence of the Human Rights for Iran) lectured on strengthening the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform, in supporting the conciliation of group interests and in consolidating participation and representation.

Dr. Mahmoud Tadjallimehr, an experienced manager in the IT and telecommunications industries, held a workshop on March 15 on “mobile security” to deepen the understanding of various security and privacy issues on mobile phones.

24th regular session of the Human Rights Council

Training on “Working with the Human Rights Council”

September 21 - 22

The two-day workshop with trainer Diane Ala’I supports Iranian human rights defenders to use the human rights mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.

Diane Ala’i has held the position of Representative to the United Nations for the Baha'i International Community at the United Nations Office in Geneva since 1992. In this position, she has participated in numerous sessions of United Nations organs such as the General Assembly, the Commission on Human Rights, the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities and its Working Groups, the UN treaty monitoring bodies and other UN mechanisms, as well as the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.


24th regular session of the Human Rights Council

Training on “Security in Cyberspace”

September 14 – 15, 2013

The two-day workshop for Iranian Human rights defenders with trainers Ali Fotovatti and Ali Nikoui on security in cyberspace will take place in Geneva from September 14 – 15, 2013. The training aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and understanding of security issues in cyberspace and exposure to possible solutions and tools to strengthen their work and is conducted in Farsi.

23rd regular session of the Human Rights Council (27 May to 14 June 2013)

Training on human rights
Ahead of the June presidential election Südwind organises a specialised human rights training on the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of opinions as well as social freedoms for human rights defenders and activits, conducted in Farsi, with lawyer Leila Ali-Karami on June 8 and 9 in Geneva.

Training courses at the 22nd session of the Human Rights Council with Dr. Leila Alikarami and Dr. Alireza Azizi
Two-day-trainings 2.3.2013 - 3.3.2013 and 9.3.2012 - 10.3.2012)will be hold by Südwind over the weekends in Geneva on the Human Rights Systems with Dr. Leila Alikarami and Dr. Alireza Azizi.

The trainings will focus on various issues of human rights, to give an introductory background to the history of human rights, how UDHR came about as well as on various international covenants, international humanitarian law.


Training course
Parallel to each regular session of the Human Rights Council we offer a one and a half-day training course designed to heighten skills and knowledge related to human rights procedures, standards, institutions, processes, international law as well as familiarise participants with the broad range of methods and strategies available for facilitating and monitoring international human rights obligations.. All training courses are conducted in Farsi by Iranian experts (human rights lawyer, internet activists).
